Bhairavi - Typeface Design

Bahiravi came to be as a part of my typography course. It started out from choosing an indic script and creating a new typeface. In addition to it, a promotional material of A3 paper size to promote and show it’s applications.

Bhairavi is a Kannda display typeface. A bold and majestic typeface, much like its name. Being true to its character, it is rigid in form yet has some gentle curves which give it a modern feel. Bhairavi is a display typeface that can be used for any large-format applications or as title text in publications.
Letter 'cha' in Kannada
Few vowels and consonants
From top to bottom - Ruchi, Mangala, Abhimana
Bhairavi is slightly different from its conventional counterparts in the Kannada script, all credit to its form and stature. The inspiration to begin this typeface was for this reason. Most Kannada typefaces are developed as body text typefaces and the need for an unconventional and distinct type was observed. Bairavi is a product of this observation. Since it’s still an experimental typeface, the use case is not tested in all of its intended applications.
